
35th Annual Child Welfare Workshop
The 2025 Child Welfare Workshop planning committee invites you to join us for a day of learning and networking with colleagues. This event will cover a variety of topics, carefully selected to provide relevant, practical, and valuable information to help you better serve “Our Children in Our Community.” Attendees who participate in the full workshop will be eligible to receive a certificate of completion for 5.5 educational/continuing education units (CEUs) for counselors/therapists (NBCC), and Maryland-licensed social workers and psychologists. Please note: Partial credit will not be awarded.

The main campus is home to the second-largest freestanding psychiatric hospital in Maryland, serving children, adolescents, and adults. Services include a residential program for children and adolescents, partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for both adults and children, and specialized education through Type 1 & 3 schools in Washington County and a Type 1 school in Frederick County. Outpatient locations in Hagerstown, Frederick, and Cumberland provide psychiatry and therapy services for all ages. The InSTEP program offers outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment for individuals with substance use disorders. Additionally, the community-based Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid program trains individuals to recognize and respond to those experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, guiding them toward appropriate care.

IFP services promote the integrity of the family, build family skills, and seek to reduce out-of-home placements. Ensuring the safety of the children in the home during IFP service is paramount.

240-420-4300The Washington County Department of Social Services’ Safe Place Advocacy Center supports victims of child maltreatment including child sexual abuse, sex trafficking, severe neglect/ physical abuse. The Safe Place partners with law enforcement, child protective services, advocacy, medical, and mental health professionals while offering therapy and advocacy to families.

Psychiatric evaluation, medication assessment and monitoring are provided to patients ages six and up. We offer in office and school-based therapy services, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) services designed to address social skills, and Mobile Treatment Services. Transportation is provided for those children participating in PRP and Mobile Treatment. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life by providing the highest standard of preventative, therapeutic and rehabilitation services.

Prevention offers tobacco cessation classes, free HIV testing, infectious disease education, opioid misuse prevention program and other evidence-based curriculums. In addition to prevention services, the Division offers an array of services that addresses individuals specific substance use needs to include linkage to a Peer Recovery Specialist.

Adults and children who have made appointments will need to bring up-to-date immunization records, insurance information (if insured) and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. There is a cost for the administration fee and the vaccine received. The costs of vaccines are on a sliding scale based on income.
