Cutting Edge Technologies & Intervention Psychologies

This presentation provides a focused overview of interventional psychiatry, with emphasis on the clinical use and operational implementation of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).
Participants will review the neurobiological rationale behind TMS, its evidence base in treatment-resistant depression and other psychiatric conditions, and practical considerations for integrating TMS into clinical practice. The session will also address patient selection, treatment protocols, safety, and emerging applications, while highlighting real-world operational challenges such as workflow design, referral generation, and financial sustainability.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe the neurobiological mechanisms of TMS and its role within the broader field of interventional psychiatry.
- Summarize the evidence base for TMS, including indications such as treatment-resistant depression and emerging off-label uses.
- Identify appropriate patient selection criteria, including predictors of response and contraindications.

Dr. Hann joined Sheppard Pratt from Brook Lane Health Services, where he served as chief medical officer and spearheaded the development of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) services, the launch of an innovative high acuity residential crisis pilot program for youth, and expanded psychiatric inpatient bed capacity.
Dr. Hann earned his MD from the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where he was the first MD/MBA graduate in the institution’s history. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, where he was honored as a Laughlin Fellow by the American College of Psychiatry. Reflecting his commitment to ongoing executive development, he completed both the Executive Development Program and General Management Program at The Wharton School.
Dr. Hann is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a Certified Physician Executive as awarded by the American Association for Physician Leadership. He has been awarded as a 2024 Young Professional of the Year by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce; 2023 Physician of the Year by The Daily Record; and during his military service, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Achievement Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal, among others.
Dr. Hann is board certified in psychiatry.
