Description: This interactive and discussion-based training examines therapeutic interventions for individuals impacted by intimate partner violence (IPV) while challenging common misconceptions surrounding abuse and barriers to change. Participants will engage in ethical and clinically relevant conversations exploring client autonomy, systemic barriers to care, clinician bias, and the complexities of abusive relationships. Through real-world clinical perspectives and case-based discussion, this course aims to strengthen critical thinking, therapeutic engagement, and practical intervention skills when working with individuals affected by IPV.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify common behaviors associated with intimate partner violence.
• Examine barriers that impact safety, treatment, and access to care.
• Discuss ethical dilemmas, clinician bias, and societal stereotypes that may influence treatment and client outcomes.
• Apply therapeutic interventions and engagement strategies that support client autonomy, safety, and emotional stabilization.

Featuring: Tarah Martin, MSW, LCSW-C

Tarah is a Baltimore native, Air Force veteran, and mental health professional with a clinical focus centered on supporting individuals affected by intimate partner violence. She earned an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and a Master of Social Work degree from the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis.

Tarah has over six years of combined experience in inpatient case management and outpatient mental health therapy. Her professional background includes crisis intervention, psychosocial assessment, safety planning, care coordination, and connecting vulnerable populations with emergency and community-based resources.

In 2023, Tarah established a virtual private practice serving adults. Her clinical interests include therapeutic interventions for intimate partner violence, crisis stabilization, and supporting individuals navigating the psychological impact of interpersonal trauma.
