Mental health professionals are often called upon to provide treatment to domestic violence offenders and victims. Legal response to domestic violence can include emergency petitions, protective orders, criminal assault charges, divorce proceedings, custody orders and child abuse and neglect intervention. Participants in this training will learn how to recognize domestic violence. Discussion will include the implications of domestic violence for treatment, responding knowledgeably when a client is involved in legal proceedings related to domestic violence, and how to contribute effectively if required to become involved in any legal proceeding.
