Guilt and shame are complex emotions that affect many aspects of a person’s life. Guilt is your conscience letting you know you’ve let yourself down in some way. Guilt can help you grow and learn from your mistakes. Shame is a destructive emotion. It convinces a person that they are bad, weak or unlovable and makes an individual less able to improve their behavior. It can make you feel hopeless and stuck, rather than affirming you are capable of growth. Join Brook Lane therapist Sarah Schiffres-Grove during this Facebook Live Event as she examines these two emotions and discusses ways to move past their challenging effects.

Sarah Schiffres-Grove is a licensed clinical social worker at Brook Lane’s North Village outpatient office. She counsels individuals and families with a variety of concerns ranging from mood and anxiety disorders, to trauma, substance use and family conflict. Sarah earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Salisbury University, a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in Jewish communal service from Baltimore Hebrew University. She has been in the field of social work since 2005.
