This continuing education ZOOM seminar will focus on the spectrum of illnesses known as schizophrenia and related disorders, with special emphasis on intervention and treatment for first episode psychosis. This will include historical perspective and etiology, assessment and differential diagnosis, and successful interventions and treatment approaches. Several evidence-based treatment options will be presented. The importance of cultural considerations and involving families and caregivers in the treatment process will also be discussed. 

 

Featured Presenters:

Katy Rinehimer, LCPC, is the team leader and clinical supervisor of EPIC-RAISE (Early Psychosis Intervention Clinic – Recovery After Initial Schizophrenia Episode) at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She oversees operations, and is the primary therapist, for a multidisciplinary team providing treatment to young people suffering from their first break with a Schizophrenia spectrum disorder, using a Coordinated Specialty Care model.

Maxwell Wolcott, LCSW-C, is a team leader and primary therapist of The Early Psychosis Intervention Clinic (EPIC) at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Peter L. Phalen, PsyD, is a Staff Psychologist at the Washington DC VA and adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine within the Division of Psychiatric Services Research. He specializes in psychosis as a clinician and researcher.

Pamela Rakhshan Rouhakhtar, PhD, received her degree in clinical psychology at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She is an Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and the assistant director of the Strive for Wellness clinic, which provides services to youth and their families experiencing attenuated symptoms of psychosis.
