Patient's Personal Belongings

This list is not meant to be all inclusive. Items may be removed by staff or not permitted if there is a concern for safety or a lack of storage space. 


Items Allowed to be Kept in Patient's Room
 

Clothing

Three changes of clothes including underwear, three changes of sleepwear including robes, shorts, t-shirts

Head Coverings

Religious head coverings are permitted but will be removed/searched during admission and as needed

Shoes

Slip-on shoes or slippers

Jewelry

Wedding rings, small piercings/studs

Comfort Items

Two comfort items such as stuffed animals

Toiletries

All toiletries will be provided by Brook Lane

Books/School Supplies

Books, school books, journals, word/number puzzles, and magazines

Other 

Lip balm, writing utensils are provided


Items Allowed in Patient's Cubby
 

Makeup

Limit to three items

Batteries

Hearing aid batteries kept in medicine cart (hearing aids may stay with patient)


Items Not Permitted for Safety and Modesty Reasons
 

Clothing

Tank tops, leggings, yoga pants, spandex (or such material), clothing with strings, holes, tears, revealing clothing, skulls or inappropriate messages, clothing that is offensive* or with the patient's last name, bras with accessible underwire

Head Coverings

Hat, hoods, head coverings (religious exception) or bandanas

Shoes

Heavy shoes/boots, or shoes with laces (even if laces are removed) 

Jewelry

Necklaces, watches, or excessively large/sharp jewelry

Comfort Items

Personal blankets or pillows

Toiletries

Loofahs, Q-tips, dental floss/dental picks, hair ties with metal connectors, hair clips

Books/School Supplies

Offensive* materials, staples, paperclips, spiral or metal ring binders, erasers

Other

Anything containing alcohol, glass, ceramic, weapons, electric or battery operated devices, tobacco products, drug paraphernalia, belts, bags of any kind, hangers, toys, writing utensils, lighters, matches

Makeup

Glass containers, makeup bags, perfume, cologne, nail polish/nail polish remover, compacts with mirrors, eyelash curlers, or tweezers

Batteries

All other batteries or devices 


*Offensive refers to any belongings that contain sexual, gang, satanic, alcohol, drug, violence, or death related messages.
 
–Valuables (i.e. purses, wallets, keys, credit cards, medication) that cannot be sent home will be secured in a property bag. The property bag will be stored in a locked medication room and returned at discharge. Please obtain any phone numbers needed out of the cell phone or copies of insurance cards, etc. before belongings are secured.
