In recognition of National Family Caregiver Month, Brook Lane and Potomac Community Services are hosting a FREE Caring for the Caregiver Resource Fair on November 10th. The resource fair will feature exhibitors from local organizations who specialize in helping individuals provide care to loved ones due to physical or mental illness. Keynote Speaker, Dr. Michael Hann, will cover the ABC's of Caregiving, from medication management to self-care. Professional panelists from Hospice of Washington County, Washington County Commission on Aging, and the Washington County Health Department (AERS) will cover The Future of Your Caregiving Journey and discuss a wide range of topics including benefits, evaluations for the aged, in-home services, palliative care, and more.

The event is FREE, but please register so you will be included in the lunch count.

Bill Hunsberger will share his personal journey in caring for his wife Sylvia during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. 

10:45 am – 11:45 am | The ABC's of Caregiving

Featuring Dr. Michael Hann, Chief Medical Officer, Brook Lane

Dr. Hann will discuss some common medications taken by those needing a caregiver and the expected side effects; knowing when you may need extra help taking care of a loved one; the critical information your doctor needs to know during visits and the importance of remembering to take care of yourself while caregiving for others.

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm | Panel Discussion: The Future of Your Caregiving Journey

Featuring Beth Layman from Hospice of Washington County, Belinda Graff from Washington County Commission on Aging, and Janice Besecker from the Washington County Health Department - Adult Review Service (AERS)

This panel will discuss various aspects that you may face in the future of your caregiving journey, including changes in Medicare and Medicaid benefits, the evaluation/assessment process for aged or disabled children and adults, and in-home and palliative care services.
